Breaking News: Brown to Play Saturday
•November 16, 2006 • Leave a CommentGeorgia basketball head coach Dennis Felton announced that junior college transfer, Takais Brown will play in Saturday’s contest against Valdosta State.
Brown was serving an indefinite suspension due to academics.
“Obviously he has been doing better academically,” Felton said.
Last season for Southern Illinois College, Brown averaged 19.3 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. Saturday’s game will be the first one in a Georgia uniform for the 6-foot-8 250 pound forward.
“He is a really critical part of our team’s attack,” Felton said. Felton said the frontcourt is the best he has ever had at Georgia. Brown will join Rashaad Singleton and Albert Jackson in the low post.

Two year starter junior, Channing Toney said the main reason he made his decision to transfer was because his playing was dropping, but he insisted that he is leaving on positive terms.
“Basically it has been a difficult adjustment going from a two -year starter,” Channing said in a phone interview Wednesday night.
“I just decided it would be the best move for me.”
Toney, son of former NBA player Andrew Toney, added that his decision is not based on the suspension that he served when he sat out the first game of the season due to an academic issue that occurred over the summer.
“It is not based on that one decision. That is not the case,” Toney said.
Toney said he came forward for the interview in order to put an end to rumors surrounding his decision.
He said he still has a good relationship with head coach Dennis Felton.
“I had my differences but at the end of the day Coach Felton has been a great coach,” Toney said, adding that Felton and his staff are trying to help Toney find schools.
Toney said he does not know which school he will be attending.

Georgia looses ten point lead to WK
•November 15, 2006 • Leave a CommentGeorgia lost the second game of the season 67-70 to Western Kentcuky. The Hilltoppers only led the game for the final 19 seconds. Georgia only scored 2 points in the finals five minutes to lose a 10 point cushion.
“We went cold at a critical time,” Felton said.
This was a game the Bulldogs wished they had back.
“We turned the ball over to much,” Levi Stukes said. “At the end of the game we just did not execute our plays.”
In other words the team was not able to finish the game and put the Hilltoppers away.
Is this game an indication of how Georgia will play against the big boys of college basketball? Is it an early season loss that Felton can use to motivate his team?
Can Georgia top Western Kentucky to start 2-0?
•November 14, 2006 • Leave a CommentGeorgia has had to exhibition games this season, except Friday’s thumping of Southern counted. On Tuesday Georgia will play its second game of the season against Western Kentucky. The Bulldogs are trying to follow up on their sixty point, 97-37 win over Southern. Is Georgia really that good or is Southern that bad?
Western Kentucky opened the season with a win 96-55 over Kennesaw State. Last year Georgia was able to squeak by the Hilltoppers with a 69-65 in Bowling Green.
The Bulldogs defense will have to slow Hilltopper guard Courtney Lee who put up 20 points against Kennesaw State.
Is this game going to be like Friday’s “Slaughter of Southern at Stegeman” or will Georgia have a tougher time putting down the Hilltoppers?
Finally, basketball season is here
•November 9, 2006 • Leave a CommentWith Georgia football struggling to say the least is anyone else looking forward to basketball season starting on Friday? It is almost a sure bet that this years men’s team will be improved with more experience and better post play. Coach Dennis Felton said after the West Georgia exhibition game that freshmen Albert Jackson will make a big impact this season. Also Rashaad Singleton was 6-7 from the floor in that game. Obviously, West Georgia did not have size to compete with Georgia but it was still a nice start for the Bulldogs.. Can Georgia fans expect the twin towers of Singleton and Jackson to make a statement this season especially in the SEC?
Georgia’s first regular season game is home on Friday at 7:30.
