Two year starter junior, Channing Toney said the main reason he made his decision to transfer was because his playing was dropping, but he insisted that he is leaving on positive terms.

“Basically it has been a difficult adjustment going from a two -year starter,” Channing said in a phone interview Wednesday night.

“I just decided it would be the best move for me.”

Toney, son of former NBA player Andrew Toney, added that his decision is not based on the suspension that he served when he sat out the first game of the season due to an academic issue that occurred over the summer.

“It is not based on that one decision. That is not the case,” Toney said.

Toney said he came forward for the interview in order to put an end to rumors surrounding his decision.

He said he still has a good relationship with head coach Dennis Felton.

“I had my differences but at the end of the day Coach Felton has been a great coach,” Toney said, adding that Felton and his staff are trying to help Toney find schools.

Toney said he does not know which school he will be attending.

“The coaching staff is trying to help me move on. They could have left me in the dust,” said the junior from Snellville.

Toney is finishing up fall semester classes at the University and thinks that the Bulldogs can make the NCAA Tournament without him.

“I just want to put it out there that I wish the best for the team. Everybody has been supportive,” Toney said.

Due to NCAA rules regarding transfers, it will be at least a year before he plays college basketball at any other school.

Toney has prepared himself to live with his choice and expects to have a year and a half left of eligibility when he suits up again in January 2008.

Toney said, “At the end of the day I made that decision.”

Georgia has had to exhibition games this season, except Friday’s thumping of Southern counted. On Tuesday Georgia will play its second game of the season against Western Kentucky. The Bulldogs are trying to follow up on their sixty point, 97-37 win over Southern. Is Georgia really that good or is Southern that bad?

Western Kentucky opened the season with a win 96-55 over Kennesaw State. Last year Georgia was able to squeak by the Hilltoppers with a 69-65 in Bowling Green.

The Bulldogs defense will have to slow Hilltopper guard Courtney Lee who put up 20 points against Kennesaw State.

Is this game going to be like Friday’s “Slaughter of Southern at Stegeman” or will Georgia have a tougher time putting down the Hilltoppers?

With Georgia football struggling to say the least is anyone else looking forward to basketball season starting on Friday? It is almost a sure bet that this years men’s team will be improved with more experience and better post play. Coach Dennis Felton said after the West Georgia exhibition game that freshmen Albert Jackson will make a big impact this season. Also Rashaad Singleton was 6-7 from the floor in that game. Obviously, West Georgia did not have size to compete with Georgia but it was still a nice start for the Bulldogs.. Can Georgia fans expect the twin towers of Singleton and Jackson to make a statement this season especially in the SEC?

Georgia’s first regular season game is home on Friday at 7:30.
